Biographical Sketch

A studio artist since 1982, Jennifer Casey is passionate about furthering the art of pastel drawing.  Appreciative of the subtle nuances of drawing, Ms. Casey has been creating works which, on the surface, depict the human figure submerged in water, but which are also a metaphorical representation of the universal emotional and physical struggle to survive.

Ms. Casey received her Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.  Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, she worked for the Milwaukee Art Museum, for Artpaper (a Minneapolis-based arts periodical), for Forecast Public Artworks (publisher of Public Art Review), and for the Minnesota International Center.

Ms. Casey received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University, where she is a Visiting Assistant Professor.  Among the honors she has received was being named the State of Illinois’ Emerging Woman Artist in 2000.

Ms. Casey’s work has been included in six solo exhibitions, seven museum exhibitions, five invitational exhibitions, and over twenty-seven group exhibitions, including the national touring show of Art of the Eye.  Her work appears in corporate collections, including the Delta Gamma Foundation, Heritage Insurance, and Skyline Displays, and in private collections in the United States and Great Britain.

The artist currently resides in the Chicago-area with her husband Michael, who is a professor of English and a writer.  She continues to create drawings and paintings, while lecturing, demonstrating techniques, judging exhibitions, and critiquing other artists’ work.
